Schools in San Carlos have an average ranking of 10/10, which is in the top 5% of California public schools.
There are several elementary schools (grades K–3), two upper elementary schools (grades 4-5), and two middle schools located inside the city (grades 6–8). Local students have attended Sequoia High School in Redwood City and Carlmont High School in Belmont since San Carlos High School closed in 1982.
